KPHX Preview Thread - Part 1

KPHX Preview Thread - Part 1

Postby Mir // FlightBeam » Thu Sep 01, 2011 11:19 pm

We're well into the production of KPHX - Phoenix Sky Harbor Intl, and the outlook is very good.

We're implementing several new technologies into KPHX. The first one will be ramp and terminal textures 2-3 times the size of KSFO textures. These are massive texture sheets we're creating with precise hand crafted shadows for your viewing pleasure. Don't worry... performance will still be excellent!

Here's a quick preview of a US Airways NGX parked at gate A20 at PHX, direct screenshot from FSX. Immediately you will notice the huge jump of quality from KSFOX. We're producing an unprecedented amount of detail into all the terminal buildings. However the work is still in progress as you can see from the top bump map. Stay tuned here and the forums for future news and screenshots.

wow Mir! it looks amazing I'm so glade you have came back to work in flight simulator I know there not much profit in it and its shame but people like you take a boring default place into in amazing sight to see, after being a few hours up in the air. I feel a shame saying I haven't gotten your ksfo yet but I promise I will soon I really hope you make a ton of more scenery's in the future.

Well done! Another must buy. Make for some good short hops between this one, your SFO and FSDT's LAX and (abliet older) LAS.

Wow! Hey, Mir. This is awesome. I was born and raised in the Phoenix desert, and was so excited to hear that you decided to do PHX. I worked the ramp for America West for two years, and can honestly say that this pic is spot on. Can't wait!!! Thank you soooo much for giving PHX its due.

I'm assuming you're talking about the new Airport Tram under construction. I will be modeling and simulating the completed tram, as if construction was finished. The airport officials have already revealed their plans about the actual plan and the look of the cars.

I'm hoping that one of the new improvements includes addition of red obstruction lights on the buildings and light towers. This is something that is missing in all airport add-ons, not sure why, frame rates perhaps. They are very noticeable at night when flying into airports as they are on every antennae, light tower, terminal buildings, hangars and parkades. It's one of the items that when missing, takes something away from the immersion of the airport at night. I'm hoping KPHX will be the first to implement this important and always overlooked aspect of airports.

Thad

HI Mir I admire your work as in artist so I was wondering today are you going to replace your baggage carts and the tugs push-back with your models? would be cool to see some tow bars around the ramp something some developers forget to put on the ramp. that's usually there in real life working as a former ramp worker myself its cool too see some for the equipment around, that extra detail makes a difference

When running the ksfo demo I was surprised to see some of the default models and was bummed out I could imagine you didn't have enough time for it but it adds a ton of realism to the area I could also understand it taken a toll on frame rates but I guess you could give the option not too install them, again this is just a humble suggestion and figured I should ask now while your developing phoenix.

With programs like AES and the forthcoming GSX using their own, would seem like a lot of needless work to replace the defaults with custom models, but thats just my opinion.

Hello Bruce Ill have to disagree with you on this one lol but not like the republicans and democrats hehe while I have aes myself its a bit different since what I'm talking about are static objects not animated like in aes I believe the surrounding custom objects adds allot of realism and visuals to the scenery having worked at a real ramp there can be many objects around like the tow bar sometimes a ground power unit parked stuff like that of course its easier said then done but figured maybe Mir might be able to add some in at a later time with kphx being in development.

If its even remotely close to the satisfaction I get from KSFO, I'll be happy! Doesn't KPHX have taxiway bridges! That will be new for me.

A little off topic here, but has there been any consideration towards making a/some Canadian airports? As a Canuck myself, I'd love to see some of our major hubs get the Flightbeam treatment! CYVR perhaps... Nudge nudge wink wink!

Cheers.

PS. I live in the lower mainland of Vancouver and would be more than willing to do some photo trips. I have many friends that can get me airside for pics.

I have seen the announcement Cory. That is indeed great news! As I have not yet tried an FSDT product, I am on the fence as far as performance is concerned. I primarily fly the NGX, and the very first major intl. airport I have purchased was FB's KSFO. And I get mid 20's performance with full right sliders.

Fsdreamteam are quite focused on keeping frame rates at a low. I think their LAX and Zurich are highly impressive and equally sports fine performance!
As Jim suggested, try out one of their demos.

Alright people-please refer to the history of this thread.

Keep in mind the following-its Christmas and the holiday season. Traditionally people are winding down to take some time off and enjoy some well deserved time with family. That would explain a lack of response.

Mir said Phoenix would be put on hold pending the release of the FS2004 version of SFO-he s still in the process of ironing it out, but I am sure Phoenix is well on its way.
Just give it time, and he will post when he can.

Yes I understand that but he's last post was in oct it seems he's doing ok since he just posted the 30% off for ksfo posted the Dec 20th as for me I was just wondering about how he was doing not about phx since I know that takes time to build its all good glade Mir is doing ok.

Alright people-please refer to the history of this thread.

Also refer to the news section dated 9/2/2011.
Stay tuned here and the forums for future news and screenshots.

That hasn't happened in three months, so I think questions and statements about having concerns over a product being advertised are valid. Far as I can tell no ones asked for a release date, just an update about whats being advertised. FSDreamteam does an excellent job keeping it's customers up to date on progress of their products. Flytampa not so good. They have been around longer than FSDreamteam and I own more FSDreamteam mostly because they keep in much better contact with it's customer base which instils more confidence in a product and it's support.
I have no doubt KPHX will be an excellent product and don't care about a release date, but a short post saying things are progressing well would satisfy many if in fact that is the case.

Y all think Mir can just crap out a good product. It takes time and he will get to it when he gets to it. As a BETA the FSX machine as a whole has really finicky coding, and he s just a one man operation. Give it time.

Well Mir is doing ok. He is very busy lately with family matters! But i am sure he will post a update as to what is going on with KPHX. When time permite's I know as a Beta tester for Mir it has taken him a while to get back to me about KSFO for FS2004, When it was in the beta stage it started with 2 of us. Then the 1 guy dropped out and the rest was left up to me. And he stated that work and family comes first. But keep your head up and i am sure he will pop up when we are not expecting it??? Any how Merry Xmas to all and all a good nite.Keith FDX240 8-)
