KPHX Phoenix Sky Harbor Preview Thread 2

KPHX Phoenix Sky Harbor Preview Thread 2

Postby Mir // FlightBeam » Thu Mar 15, 2012 6:26 pm

Since all the terminals have been completed, I'm making a new thread for the upcoming batch of preview screenshots.

Most of the work is done, now we focus on the ground work, and later on dynamic jetways.

Our KPHX deploys high-definition textures for ultra-crisp, ultra realistic graphics. 2048x2048 texture sheets are used at all terminals and prominent buildings. Additionally all shadows are hand painted, and baked into the textures. Unlike KSFOX... there is a mind boggling amount of optimized detail at all terminals.

Worried about performance? Worry not. Through a decade of game industry experience and having worked on major console and PC titles, I've implemented highly advanced 3d optimization techniques to increase your performance by a significant amount compared to competing scenery with less detail. This includes fsx standard LOD optimization techniques also used to decrease any "flickers".

For now, we'll start with a teaser and a low shot of part of the airport. Remember this is still work in progress and still missing assets. Enjoy!

Hey Mir,

It looks great so far. I do understand this is a work in progress but I was wondering if the terminal textures are finalized. Maybe it is just on my screen and how my monitor is but the terminal textures in that shot seem to have a red hue to them, when in reality, it is more of a neutral beige tone that is a near match to the tone of the ramp tarmac.

Yes! You are absolutely correct. However don't pay too much attention to the colors in that screenshot since they were enhanced.
The next set of screenshots will show the terminals in more detail :)

Awesome! Can't wait.

Again, didn't want to pester you since these are WIP shots but I saw you say that the terminals were completed so I was a tad bit worried.

Thanks Mir!

Its looking wonderful Mir love the textures also the details on terminal its good to see that you modeled in 3d the parts of the structure in the buildings like the edges etc etc I know in other scenery its usually a flat texture so that really great detail really stands out its looking awesome.

hello gents, first time at the forum, i´m very impressive about your work congrats., i´m very curious about the active jetways. it will be something like ctrl+j or something more developed similar to AES, it would be fantastic an active jetway well done to fit with GSX.

Mir,

I just came across a KSDL (Scottsdale, AZ) scenery from AWG (http://awg-sim.businesscatalyst.com/) while looking at their freeware section. Is there any possibility that KSDL will interfere with KPHX when it's out?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark, it will not interfere as long as the scenery AFCAD is done correctly, which I'm sure it is. :)

Hey, Mir. This is looking fantastic!!! I know you're really busy and all, but was hoping you could answer a couple of questions. Are you planning on modeling the economy lots on both sides of the airport, and rental car center on the west side? Also, Honeywell has a huge plant on the north side, it would be great to see this, as well as their 757 engine test bed (used to be a lovely 707) parked there. Lastly, perhaps I may make a small request? I was a member of Civil Air Patrol for about 6 years, and my squadron was Sky Harbor Composite Squadron 301. Our building is still there, right next to the double GA washing bays we used for PT, but it's in tatters. It is located on the NW corner of the airfield, just east of the Ameriflight hangar, which is just east of the Left Seat Cafe. I don't know how detailed you're are going to make the outskirts of the KPHX, but if you could model these few buildings, I would be greatly indebted. As always, keep up the wonderful work, Mir. Thank you.

Hi Chris,

Well this might answer your question. This image attached is our area of coverage for KPHX. Anything inside this area gets satellite ground texture, 3d buildings, animations, etc.
Anything outside of that is default scenery. Right now it seemlessly blends into the scenery, with or without an addon such as MegaScenery Phoenix. So to answer your Q.. Honeywell will be included along with the other hangars in the North field, most parking lots as well. However the giant rental car facility is outside of the boundary and will not be modeled.
It looks like the old Civil Air patrol hangar you mentioned is going to be included, but I'm not sure specifically which building you're referring to. Tell you what, send me an email to general@flightbeam.net with pictures, if you have any of this building, and I'll make sure extra detail goes into it ;)

Thanks for your reply, Mir. My CAP building is definitely in the area highlighted. Unfortunately, all the pictures I have are either inside the building or looking away from it. Good news is, the PHX Sky Train made its first official run today: http://www.azcentral.com/community/phoe ... -test-runs
