Alignments incorrect at KIAD / KPHX

Post by BlkCloud58 » Sun Jan 05, 2020 11:38 am

This issue recently began again out of the blue. For some reason, only Dulles and Phoenix on P3Dv4.5 are afflicted. The aircraft are not aligning with the scenery gates.
KIAD

KPHX

My main used add-ons are: FSAeroData, SODE, SODE VGDS, GSX v2, ORBX Global, Vector, all ORBX US Regions active, OLC NA, UTLive, Navigraph data.

So, I have run the troubleshooter and set the appropriate "switches" to Disabled, except for those pertaining to FSAero's files; reason is setting on or off made no difference. I have gone through the "common problems" FAQ's, none of which address this issue. I have scoured my HDD directories for the "odd" AFCAD, which only shows the FSAero's bgl's for the airports as the only other items named KPHX***.bgl or KIAD***.bgl. As far as I can tell, nothing from ORBX should be interfering with these two airports as I deactivated my US regions as well as tested with them activated. FSAero files work fine with the other FB sceneries (i.e. not disabled via troubleshooter).

Recent additions to my sceneries have been SEQM (Nice job!!); MKStudio EIDW, SXAD's KBHM and KBNA, FlyTampa KLAS and lastly Godzone's NZCH. Most of these are disabled when not being used (i.e. European or Oceania when not flying in those areas). The issue began before any of these sceneries were installed. I have even gone so far as to deactivate all but the two affected sceneries, issue remains. Uninstalled KPHX as a test, re-downloaded the installer to ensure I had latest version - updated the Manager, et. al. Now - being on "Metered" / limited data internet, wiping everything and starting over is no longer an option for me. So any advice on whch way to proceed now would be appreciated!

Kind regards,

Ken W.

Hi there Ken,

So this is clearly another AFCAD issue, since a conflicting AFCAD always overwrites ours and the slewed parking positions are a typical problem. While I wish we had a magic way of telling you exactly where to look for your conflict, it's impossible since there are so many handcrafted AFCADs that people are downloading (especially from AVSIM). So the only thing we can do is to advise on how to troubleshoot it yourself to find it.

The first method is obviously the Flightbeam Troubleshooter, which you've already tried.
If that fails, it escalates to using the Scenery Library within P3D to manually disable each possible conflict until it is found. Simply uncheck scenery in the Scenery Library to temporarily disable.. then check KPHX or KIAD.
This may take some patience but in such cases there is not much choice. Hope this helps!

8-) Thank you, Mir. I have been testing in such manner but 'tis slow going, as you know. 8-)

I appreciate the feedback, and though was the answer I expected, it is in fact, helpful! By the by, awaiting NZAA. Loved NZWN! I just got SEQM and it tested out fine for gate parking, and looks excellent.

Many cheers,

Ken

No problem Ken, I hope you find that one file causing issues.

Thanks for the service as well. I am currently serving at NAS Whidbey Island.

@SammyH - Was my honor to have served (1978-1992). What a coincidence! Whidbey was my last duty station (90-92). Am sure the base has changed drastically since I was there, going by what Google Earth or Maps shows. And, thank YOU for serving!

Re: Alignments incorrect at KIAD / KPHX  [SOLVED]

Hi all,
I have found the problem file and it unfortunately *was* FSAD_Comms.bgl. Why it showed up after last testing yesterday did not point to it, I do not know. Anywho - the issue is that P3D v4.5 HF2 changed some things and hence the FSAD entries cannot be at top of scenery config (i.e. for 3rd party add-on airports, the changes made by FSAerodata will not work). Now, for whatever reason only my FB KIAD and KPHX seem to be affected where others have reported issues with others, say - FlyTampa KLAS, yet I did not (and I have KLAS). Of course, there are other vendors whose sceneries are affected, but for some strange reason those that I too have, are not affected by this issue. What gets me is how KPHX is affected yet KDEN (with the special elevation mesh) is not, much less the majority of ORBX airports I have. Weird!
I digress...
FSAerodata has a basic fix (by no means a total fix yet) on their site. Page 4 of the topic "P3D HF2 Airports issues" can shed some light and beginning around page 7 you can read more of the cause/effect and something to help.

Mir, hope I didn't violate anything mentioning a couple of other vendors!

Cheers,
Ken W.

You are fine Ken, and glad this is somewhat figured out. You are not talking bad about them or anything which is usually when things get sticky.

As for why the issue is with those specific scenery, it could be the design of the AFCAD but I will allow Mir to give a better explanation that what I can, surely.

I'm sure it has changed. I am leaving here soon but it was nice while it lasted.

Well, good luck to you, SammyH. You will be missed.

This can actually be marked Solved... the issue lies within AFCADS (be it 3rd party or default) and the Elevation FSAD_Comms has. In order for the latter to work at top of scenery library, the elevation with FSAD_Comms.BGL has to match up. As mentioned above, the FSAD folk have provided a basic fix. One just has to run two programs each time Navigraph or an airport scenery is updated, or when adding a new aiport scenery.

Many cheers!

fsaerodata does not contain full airport BGL files, only updated navigation database items. The other fallout from the "secret" update that LM did with P3d 4.5 HF2 is that those ALT BGL files are no longer needed to change the altitude of an airport. They are now only needed to change the name of the airport.
